Defining & Achieving Goals

DEFINING & ACHIEVING GOALS - TRANSFORMING DREAMS INTO REALITY

If you've ever gone to a therapist for help, you know that the first question they usually ask is something like, "So, what's the problem," or "What's wrong (with you)?"

With NLP, we take a different approach. Instead of presuming that you are "broken"or judging you, we believe that everything you do, think, and feel is there for a reason. My first question usually is, "What do you want? If you could have anything you dream of at the end of this session, what would that be?" Notice how this question cajoles you into thinking about your outcome rather than your pain. This is called your "Desired State". Right from the outset, we work toward transforming your dreams into reality.

My next question is, "How will you know when you have achieved your outcome?" So often, we give all our attention to our problems. Have you ever thought about what it will feel like when things have changed?

Another question is, "What stops you from having what you want right now?" This usually leads us to a description of your "Present State," the behaviors or feelings that you want to change.

Once we know what your Present and Desired States are, I help you find the resources you need to move to your Desired State, and apply NLP principles and techniques to guide you in that direction.

Teaching people how to use their minds better is one of the ultimate goals of NLP. One example is the NLP Spelling Strategy that can help both kids and adults improve their spelling dramatically, sometimes in just a single session. Another example is overcoming anxiety, which often responds well to the NLP "Swish" pattern. For other benefits that can be achieved with NLP, click on How can NLP help me?
